Courses Available to be Taught
As a dancer of the Graham and Limón technique for many years, Bergmann shares her
intense love for dancing with those desiring to create an expressive body.
Bergmann continues to share her deep love and belief in dance as the well from
which flows a continued source of growth, development, and transformation.
Believing in the power of dance and the need to continue to move throughout
one’ s life, Bergmann concentrates on helping people move deeply from within
to access their authentic movement qualities, and helps people to move with
confidence.
Course #1: Dance with Me
Learn the basics of the Martha Graham technique by working alongside Elizabeth
Bergmann. Develop your strength and flexibility by learning the movements of
the independent and unique Martha Graham. Concentrating on your breath as the
impetus for movement, these techniques will immerse you in a deep physicality.
Dancing to music, the floor barre creates a workout that can be used to stay
centered, energized, strong, and lithe.
Course #2: Dance with Me
Learn the basics of the José Limón Dance Technique. Based upon the Fall and
Rebound concept of Doris Humphrey, this expansive technique uses the breath
to empower movement. Using the parts of the body like an instrument in an orchestra,
Limón's technique uses the power of passion as a driving force for movement.
Course #3: Learn-A-Dance
Skilled as a choreographer, Bergmann (3-time National Endowment for the
Arts choreography grant winner), creates a dance unique to the group that she
is working with. Learning a dance made up for the group and working on its
performance, the piece is taped and copies are given to the participants. The group
interaction affords possibilities for understanding and developing a working
relationship with others through dance.
Course #4: Make-A-Dance
Learn the basics of choreography. Teaching the elements of what makes a good
dance, Bergmann works with each participant to help them create their own short
dance study. Understanding the use of space, dimension, time, rhythm, energy,
and contrast, each participant will make a dance out of their own experience,
concentrating on their creativity and expressiveness.
